Danish Center for Energy Storage, DaCES, is a partnership that covers the entire value chain from research and innovation to industry and export in the field of energy storage and conversion. The ambition of DaCES is to strengthen cooperation, sharing of knowledge and establishment of new partnerships between companies and universities.
And Danfoss is part of it! The project, Bornholm Smartgrid Secured – by grid connected battery systems (BOSS), plans to install the largest battery in Denmark and support Bornholm’s ambitions to become a 100% sustainable community.
Denmark will construct one of the world's first energy islands utilizing its abundant wind energy resources in the North and Baltic Seas.
Denmark has a long history of exploiting the strong winds from the sea to produce electricity. We constructed the world’s first offshore wind farm in 1991. In the climate agreement of 22 June 2020, the Danish legislature decided to build on that legacy with the construction of two energy islands.
The Danish Energy Agency is leading the project of creating energy islands from offshore wind, aimed at generating a green energy supply for Danish and foreign electricity grids. The energy islands mark the beginning of a new era for energy generation.
After political agreement on the energy islands was reached, the Danish Energy Agency is playing a key role in leading the project that will transform the two energy islands from a vision to reality. The islands are a pioneer project that will necessitate the deployment of existing knowledge into an entirely new context.
